One of Europe’s leading character tenors, Alasdair Elliott’s acclaimed portrayals include such roles as Mime for Scottish Opera’s production of Der Ring; Pong and The Emperor (Turandot) for the Teatro Real, Madrid, the Royal Opera, Covent Garden and Reisopera, Netherlands; Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte) ) for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Glyndebourne Touring Opera and in Lisbon; Red Whiskers ( Billy Budd ) and the Gamekeeper ( Rusalka ) for Glyndebourne Festival Opera;  Bardolpho and Ciaus ( Falstaff ) for the Royal Opera, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and with  the London Symphony Orchestra and Bayerische Rundfunks Symphonie Orchester;  and First and Fourth Jew ( Salome ) for Opera Royal de la Monnaie, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and Netherlands Opera also recorded for Chandos.

Other operatic roles he has made his own include Spoletta ( Tosca ) for Seattle Opera; Brighella ( Ariadne auf Naxos ) for the Royal Opera and ENO; Snout ( A Midsummer Night’s Dream  ) for Glyndebourne Festival Opera; Goro ( Madama Butterfly ) for the Royal Opera, Opera North, Israeli Opera and Holland Park Opera;  Valzacchi and Innkeeper ( Der Rosenkavalier ) for the Royal Opera, English National Opera and Scottish Opera; Guidobald Usodimare (  Die Gezeichneten ) for the Netherlands Opera;  Zorn ( Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg  ) for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and the Royal Opera;  David (Die Meistersinger) for Staatstheatre Stuttgart; Vitek ( The Makropulos Case ) and Shvonder ( Dog’s Heart ) for English National Opera and Netherlands Opera; Sellem ( The Rake’s Progress ) in Israel and Lille; Andres ( Wozzeck ) for the Royal Opera and Israeli Opera; Red Whiskers ( Billy Budd ) with the London Symphony Orchestra; Nick ( Fanciulla del West ) for Opera Zuid; Cabaretier ( Benvenuto Cellini ) with the London Symphony Orchestra; Don Curzio ( Le Nozze di Figaro ) for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Seattle Opera and the Royal Opera; and Der Bucklige ( Die Frau ohne Schatten ) with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic.

He is also well-known for his interest in contemporary music. He performed Festus in the  world premiere of Legende for NPS in the Concertgebouw while his performances of Der Kanzler and Der Schreiber in Schreker’s Der Gratzgraber  for The Netherlands OperaVova in Schnittke’s Life with an Idiot for both English National Opera and Scottish Opera, The Servant in the world premiere of John Buller’s The Bacchae for English National Opera, and Policeman 5/Gentleman 2/Dandy 1/Kovalyov’s Acquaintance 2 in The Nose  for the Royal Opera which all earned him critical acclaim.

In opera and in concert he has worked with some of the world’s leading conductors including Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, Daniel Harding, Sir Charles Mackerras, Valdimir Jurovsky, Sir Richard Armstrong, Sir Andrew Davis, Christian Thielemann, Daniele Gatti, Sir Antonio Pappano and Sir Mark Elder. He has performed regularly in concert with the London Symphony Orchestra, Symphonie Orchestre des Bayerischen Rundfunks ( Munich ), Radio Filharmonisch Orkest ( Amsterdam ), Hallé Orchestra, Monteverdi Choir, the English Concert, and the London Mozart Players.

Future plans include Snout ( Midsummer Night’s Dream ) for The Israeli Opera; Mr. Strutt ( Marnie ) and Don Curzio ( Le Nozze di Figaro ) for English National Opera; Innkeeper ( Der Rosenkavalier ) for Glyndebourne Festival Opera.Squeak ( Billy Budd ) and Don Curzio for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; and Dancing Master ( Ariadne ) for Scottish Opera.

His recording of Falstaff  ( Dr. Ciaus ) for LSO Live under Sir Colin Davis won a Grammy in 2005, additional recordings include Rusalka ( Gamekeeper ) and  A Midsummer Night’s Dream ( Snout ) for Glyndebourne Live label,  Salome ( Fourth Jew ) for Chandos,  Billy Budd ( Red Whiskers ) for Virgin Classics with Daniel Harding and the LSO, Benvenuto Cellini ( Cabaretier ) for LSO Live with Sir Colin Davis and the LSO, and Die Meistersinger von Nurenberg for Royal Opera – Heritage Series with Bernard Haitink.
